Born and raised off the grid on a sustainable homestead in Humboldt County, Dustin Johnston learned how to use basic tools by building structures with his father. In high school he worked in construction before pursuing an education in Envionmental Studies at UC Santa Cruz. Upon returning to Humboldt County after college, Dustin began playing around building furniture and wood projects for friends and family. That was when he realized he could make a career out of creating custom wood pieces. His success with custom builds lead to an offer from Pierson Building Center in Eureka, CA when they asked Dustin to design and create quality cutting boards to be sold not only in their Christmas store, but year round!
With access to high quality wood purchased from Almquist Lumber, Dustin is able to design one-of-a-kind cutting boardes. Although he has set sizes for his cutting board, the colorful wood strips in each piece vary in width so that each creation is distinctive. It might take a few days to construct a design, but Dustin's happy place is in his shop making his functional pieces of art.
