HumYum is an artisanal caramel company focused on quality and sustainability. Using only organic ingredients and dairy local to Humboldt County, HumYum creates small batch caramels and caramel sauces, as well as vegan caramel sauces.

The company was founded in 2016 by Elkiya Menes, a gourmet food enthusiast specializing in gluten free confections. After completing her B.A. in psychology at Humboldt State University in 2009, she moved to San Francisco and attended the pastry program at Le Cordon Bleu, earning her certificate in culinary arts of patisserie and baking in 2010. After which she interned at Chez Panisse in Berkely, CA, where she was inspired by their culinary expertise and use of local, organic, and rustic ingredients. Bringing the ideology of the slow food movement and food sensitivity to her own business, she created corn, soy, and gluten free organic caramel products that are better for you and the environment.

HumYum uses compostable cellophane to wrap their caramel pieces and glass jars for their sauces in an effort to reduce waste. Their goal is to have 100% sustainable packaging by 2019.

HumYum started as a cottage food business in 2016 but has since moved into their own unit at the Foodworks Culinary Center in Arcata, CA. Always in the process of developing new products, they currently have 2 flavors of caramels and 4 flavors of sauces.
